Thieves stole a Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS directly from a dealership in California
Fortunately, police recovered both cars, which are reportedly worth more than $500.
The suspects in this story seem to have imagined themselves as characters from a real-life video game when they decided to steal a pair of Porsches straight from a dealership in California. Their method? Driving the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS through the glass windows of Porsche’s Fremont showroom after midnight.
Fortunately, there’s one pesky detail in the real world that these thieves may have overlooked: the police. Both stolen cars were found within days, and one suspect is currently behind bars.
The Hollywood-style burglary happened on Thursday, April 4, around 12:45 a.m. on Cushing Boulevard in Fremont, California. Authorities responded to a report of two suspects stealing a red 911 GT3 RS (991) and a white 911 GT3 (believed to be a 991.2) from a Porsche Fremont dealership.
When police arrived at the scene, the suspects had already left, leaving behind broken glass. However, operatives determined the direction of movement of the car and traced its tracks. A few hours later, the Fremont Police Department’s Special Operations Unit located the 991 GT3 RS in Milpitas, California and returned it to the dealership.
The white GT3 was discovered a day later, thanks to the use of a high-tech camera. After “several hours of surveillance,” the police identified the suspect behind the wheel of the stolen Porsche and located him. The 22-year-old was arrested and the second Porsche returned to the dealer, ending his adventure.
During a search of the suspect’s home, police found “several high-powered rifles, stolen property, money and a police radio scanner,” adding to his trouble with the law.
The convicted felon is now facing charges including burglary, driving or stealing a vehicle without the owner’s consent, conspiracy, possession of a firearm and ammunition, and willfully resisting or delaying a law enforcement officer.
The dealer estimated the total value of the cars to be over $500. It is not clear if both Porsches were damaged during the robbery or how expensive it will be to restore them to their former condition.
